The year is 1990 in Tochigi, Japan. Where, in the firey furnaces of some factory. What happened at this factory? I’ll tell you. Rear wheel drive, mid mounted V6 producing 270 hp, it was the price of a corvette and the performance of a modern Ferrari. Yes! It’s the Honda NSX! The best sports car of the ’90s.

Ayrton Senna, my favorite racing driver, helped Honda develop it. The best feature of all!? Two words! Pop-up. Headlights. The most sought after design feature of ’90s. It was a small, Japanese sports car, but it wasn’t just that. It was essentially a super car. The MSRP was $50,000 (some dealers sold them for as much as $100,000). That’s a lot of money, but it isn’t a lot of money for a super car.
This car was a game changer. It combined the performance of a Ferrari with the convenience of an everyday driver, like an Accord. It was easy to drive around town, but then you could also dominate at the race track. It actually gave Ferrari a run for its money. The Ferraris of the 90s were track cars that just couldn’t function around town. They were also at least three times the cost of the NSX. So, Ferrari had to pick up there game.
Unfortunately, Honda killed it in 2003. There have been rumors of it coming back almost every year since its rather unfortunate demise. Now I am all a quiver with excitement because it’s no longer a rumor…It’s back!

Well, not yet but Honda is officially releasing one. It's not being produced until 2013, but it is being produced!
It does strangely resemble an Audi R8. It’s also a hybrid. But not a Prius hybrid, a sports car hybrid. That maybe an oxymoron to some of you. It actually isn’t. It has a high reving, mid mounted V6 (like the original), but also has some means of collecting heat that escapes from the brakes. This heat can be converted into power via a fly wheel and then sent to the wheels by an electric motor. At least, that’s roughly how Porsche does it. It seems to be the trend in the sports car world. Seeing that Honda is Japanese, they will probably come up with something incredibly clever.
There are a few reasons why I think it will be brilliant:
1. Honda is Japanese
2. They’re probably looking to beat the Nissan GTR
3. They might be trying to beat the Lexus LFA
4. They have a reputation to live up to
5. Honda might team up with McClaren for F1. When a company is in racing their cars are amazing
I am just hoping this car will be brilliant! Even if I never get to own one, I am really excited that it will be back!
